End of the Year Book Tag

🎃 Like or Treat! Freebies Inside by Halo Lab | Halloween artwork, Halloween illustration, Halloween paintingHappy Spooktober Darlings! We are 3 months until 2022, so I thought it would be a lot of fun to do the End of The Year Book Tag. Originally created by Ariel Bissett, I just thought it would be a fun way of going all the books I read this year and a couple of books I still want to get too.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is picture1-1.pngIn terms of my Goodreads Goal, I am nowhere close to my target of 100. For the last 3 years I have read over 100 books, which is why I chose my Goodreads Goal this year to be 100. I know before 2018 I read about 57 to 66 books, so despite only reading 68 books this year, I wouldn’t consider this to be my worst reading year. It is literally smack dab in-between. Also, while I am not hopeful, I will reach my goal of 100 books, I do think it’s possible to make it to 80 Books. So, I think I am going to change my Goodreads Goal to that.

Before we get into the questions, let’s quickly go over all the books I have read as of September. It has been such a busy year for me; thank the gods for Manhwa and Urban Fantasy/Paranormal because if not for them I don’t think I would have read much of anything.

Like I said way too many Manhwas and Paranormal Romance books. I am going to aim to just read books for the remainder of the year, but we will see what happens. With that all said let’s get into the tag!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

There are 3 books I started and would love to finish before the end of the year. The first one being Winterblaze (Darkest London #3) by Kristen Callihan, a paranormal historical mystery and we follow a separated husband and a wife that attempt to find a missing woman while mending their relationship. I swear it’s a lot funnier than it’s summary. The next one is Jade Fire Gold by C.L.Tan, which is an epic Xianxia novel that follows a girl with mysterious powers and a boy who will do anything to get his throne back. Finally, I really want to get to A Dance With A Fae Prince (Married To Magic #2) by Elise Kova, which is a Cinderella meets Psyche and Eros but with Fae retelling.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I feel like Darcy Coates is the perfect author to transition to the cooler months. She just writes a lot of atmospheric creepy books. So, I want to get to Mistral Bed and Breakfast, a short story about a travel vlogger staying at a creepy B&B, and The Whispering Dead which just came out and is a girl hiding at haunted groundkeeper cottage from a murderer. I also think The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle is perfect to transition to the fall season as it set during October and follows a family that become accident prone to the point of death.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

There is just one new release that has yet to come out that I am super excited for and that is Well Matched (Well Met #3) by Jen Deluca. I adored the first two books in this series, and I cannot wait for Mitch and April’s story. From the summary alone it just sounds amazing.  56845755

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

Besides Well Matched by Jen Deluca, I also really want to get to Dead Voices by Katherine Arden and Shades of Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon (which at this point is it even a winter tbr without Shades of Doon on there). I really want to make an effort to get to these 3 especially before New Years.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

There are 2 books that I think could easily become my next favourites. The first is Bridge of Souls by Victoria Schwab. I adored this middle grade series, and I am very curious to see how it wraps up. This one is about a girl who can see ghosts and visits different cities with her parents filming a tv show on ghost stories. This time around they head to New Orleans, which not only has ghost stories but embraces all sorts of the macabre. The second books I think could be an all-time favourite is The Night Library of Sternendach by Jessica Lévai, which is a vampiric opera told in prose about a family of hunters and vampires. It just sounds amazing and everything I could possibly need during this season.

Have you already started making reading plans for next year?

Yes, I have. Next year I want to prioritize all the backlisted books I own physically. I just feel like I need the space on my bookshelves, and I want to get to these books I have had on my tbr for years. My taste in books is changing, I’m no longer gravitating towards YA, so now is the time to get to these backlisted books. I also want to get back into participating readathons (HorrorIn24, Gilmore Girls Readathon and Smutathon are for sure going to happen) . They are always so much fun to do. I enjoy trying to hunt for books to match the prompts, and they sometimes get me to read books that I wouldn’t normally pick up that to this day I consider all-time favourites.

So that was the End of the Year Book Tag. I encourage any of you to do it yourself and I hope you all have a wonderful October!
